The dream of an athletic complex at St. John's Jesuit is now a reality. Since its opening, SJJ has earned an outstanding reputation for athletic excellence in high school sports. The Titans have grown into a powerhouse known for their strength and athletic talent, competitive spirit, and award-winning sportsmanship.
Now, our teams have a state-of-the-art facility to call home. Thanks in part to the vision and personal contribution of former Board of Trustees chairman W. Geoffrey Lyden III, Lyden Field is a reality.
"Academics is the core of St. John's, but a strong athletic program is also a necessity for a well-rounded Jesuit education," Mr. Lyden said. "If you are pursuing excellence it needs to be evidenced in every part of your program. Strong facilities foster that."
The stadium seats 2,000 Titan fans and 1,600 visitors and is utilized by many of SJJ's 22 athletic teams. The St. John's Jesuit Varsity Football team will host its first home game at Lyden Field on Aug. 31, 2012.
"This new athletic complex at SJJ really sends our level of pride soaring," Varsity Football Coach Doug Pearson '82 said. "To have a home field and a beautiful stadium to serve our athletic teams and our fans is the realization of a long-standing dream."
