Senior Recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy is proud to announce that one senior has been recognized as a Commended Scholar by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Charlie Mlcek ’21 placed among the top 50,000 of 1.6 million students who entered the 2020 competition by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

Charlie Mlcek ’21 lives in Monclova and is actively involved in theater at both St. John’s Jesuit and Notre Dame Academy. At school, Charlie is a member of the Ambassador Core Team, National Honors Society, and Social Justice Alliance. He is a part of his school’s Magis Society and Model UN team, and he volunteers as a GED tutor with the St. John's Christian Service program. Previously, Charlie served as a student council representative, campaign intern for a local mayoral campaign, and member of Youth Leadership Toledo. He attended the HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership) Ohio West Conference, was a Freshman Retreat Captain, rowed on his school’s crew team, and leads both his Mentor Group and Big Brother group. Currently, Charlie is co-director for TV4 (St. John’s morning news station), captain of the chess team, and an experience maker at Chick-fil-a on Airport Highway. He has applied to Tulane University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Richmond, Villanova University, Emory University, Duke University, Washington & Lee University, and the College of the Holy Cross.

St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy is a Catholic Jesuit school for young men in grades 6 – 12.  Established in Toledo in 1965, St. John’s Jesuit High School & Academy is dedicated to forming students of competence and compassion, and Men for Others.
