Thursday morning update:

The early dismissal scheduled for tomorrow (TODAY--THURSDAY) has been cancelled by the high school. There will be regular dismissal at 3:06 p.m. on Thursday, March 11.

Next week SJJ, along with many other high schools, will be giving the Ohio Graduation Test to all sophomores. As a result there will be a late start every day for all other students. Buses will run at the regular time and the students can be here at the regular time, but they do not have to report until 10:15 a.m. each day from Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 19. The only exception is on Thursday, March 18 when we are asking all 8th grade students to be here at 8:15 a.m.

There will be a short TRACK meeting for any boy's who would like to run track this spring for the Academy, on Tuesday, March 16th from 3:15 - 3:30ish.. As long as we do not conflict with the High School it looks like the track team will practice Monday's, Tuesday's, and Thursday's from 4:45 - 6:15 p.m. As usual we encourage all over our students no matter the ability level to give all over our sports a try. Track coach George Mullan is a fantastic coach, and the boy's would have a great time.

The tennis team will have their first practice of the year Friday after school from 3:30 - 5:00 at Shadow Valley.

Lacrosse will have a wall ball session this Sunday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the auxiliary gym (all are welcome)

Thanks,

Chris Knight

Monday, March 8

Hi everyone:

The last week of the third quarter was a busy one. Students were completing projects in Social Studies and Math, making presentations in "The Shark Tank," and preparing for extra-curricular competitions. Yesterday, Mr. Butler and I traveled to Columbus with 18 Academy students for the Ohio State Archery Tournament. It was a great experience for the boys and we are eagerly awaiting the posting of the results. Over 1300 students from around the state competed.

Congratulations to the 8th grade class and Mr. Nichols for successfully completing their "Mission to Mars" last week at the Challenger Learning Center. While the 8th grade was traveling to outer space, the 7th grade was busy dissecting fetal pigs. Today, Mr. Nichols and 30 Academy students are in Lima for the district Science Olympiad competition. I'll send out a Twitter "tweet" with the results once I receive the news. We have a 7th and an 8th grade team competing.

Some basketball teams are still participating in tournaments. Coach Perriatt's 8th grade boys team won the CYO "Super Tournament" and begins play tomorrow in the diocesan tournament in Tiffin. Coach Mullan's 7th grade team is playing this morning and I'm awaiting word on their game.

It has been an especially busy time. We had tentatively scheduled "Sundaes with Mom" for tomorrow, March 7, but that won't work due to too many conflicts. We'll find a time when we're in between activities and get a firm date scheduled that will give everyone a chance to attend. Thanks for your patience and understanding-we will have "Sundaes with Mom" event this year and it will be the best one yet!

A few calendar reminders: this Thursday, March 11 there is an early dismissal taking place at 2:00 p.m. We are holding another "7th/8th Grade Dance/Fun Night" on Saturday, March 20 and we need A LOT of chaperones. If you can help please e-mail Kris Fritsch at kfritsch@sjjtitans.org and let her know.

Our "Hannah's Socks" collection boxes are being dropped off Tuesday so you'll be hearing from the U-ACT group about our sock collection later this week.

Monday is the first day of the fourth quarter. Final third quarter grades will be turned by the teachers on Wednesday morning and we will send out report cards by the end of the week.

Parents of 7th grade students will be receiving a registration from for 8th grade in the mail. Please fill it out and return as soon as possible so we can finalize our plans for next year. 8th grade students who are going on to the high school are reminded that registration for incoming freshmen is being held on Monday and Tuesday, March 8 and 9 in the evening. Contact Mrs. Hayes in the admissions office if you have any questions rhayes@sjjtitans.org.

Condolences go out to 8th grader Russel Zieroff and his family on the passing of his grandmother. Also, a prayer request for the father of our school president, Fr. Martinez, SJ. His father suffered two heart attacks and is facing the possibility of bypass surgery.

Remember to check out our online photo album, www.photobucket.com/sjjacademy for pictures from a variety of Academy activities. We try to post pictures every 2-4 days so check back each week. We are fortunate to have a number of digital cameras and camcorders for staff and students to use. Right now groups of students are working with Mr. Bumpus making "commercials" about the Academy. We'll post the finished products when they are ready.
