Academy Parent Newsletter
September 9, 2017

Hello, Academy Titan Parents!

Believe it or not, we are at the half-way point of our first quarter! Powerschool is an easy way to stay aware of your Titan’s academic progress. If you are unfamiliar with using Powerschool, please feel free to call and we can help you navigate.

Hinging on academic progress and concerns, also feel free to stay in touch with us regarding any social or emotional progress or struggles your son might be having in his transition into this new academic school year. We take Cura Personalis (care for the whole person) to heart in the Academy and hope to join his biggest advocates, you, in this effort!

From School Counseling – Mrs. Hujik

This is often a time when students need to really learn how to study.  Reading material over is NOT studying.  REAL studying involves memory work, self-testing, understanding and reasoning.  Flashcards, outlines, summary sheets, and practice tests are all great study techniques, as well as writing notes and definitions more than once.  More frequent but shorter study periods are most effective.  In addition to written homework, a short amount of time should be set aside each day for the review and studying of course materials.

Class Pictures & Picture Retakes

Class pictures were passed out at Mini-Class Night. If you were not in attendance (or your photos were not in the correct mentor group) and pictures did not come home Thursday, expect remaining packages to arrive home Monday, as they will be passed out in our group meeting.

If your son was not able to be at the registration day on August 14, he can have his picture taken on our retake day, which is September 25. You can order a picture package beforehand by going to  I will also have order forms in my office and your son can pick one up from me.

If you are not happy with the package you purchased, please have your son bring it with him to school on September 25 and he can have his photo retaken. A duplicate package will be sent two to three weeks later.

7th & 8th Grade Dance Cancellation

While nothing has gone out regarding our first dance of the year (other than the online calendar), we want to alert you that it has been postponed. We do have another activity that will be posted soon!

Hey, Moms…a tip you can use at home: Cooking class includes “Learning how to do the dishes!”

Anthony looks happier with the prospect of tossing a balloon than he did at doing the dishes…! (Sorry, Anthony---we are sure you are a great dish-dryer!)
